Troubleshooting: Conflict Rules Not Working
If a conflict rule fails to block incompatible items or auto-select requirements, first ensure the rule type is correctly set to "Incompatible" rather than "Requires." You should also verify that the rule targets the specific Shopify product IDs in use, especially if there are duplicate items in your inventory. Confirm the rule was saved by reloading the Conflict Resolution page to check for its presence in the list. Finally, perform a hard-refresh on your storefront (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) to clear any cached rule data.
Symptom
A conflict rule is not preventing customers from selecting incompatible items, or not auto-selecting required items on the storefront.
Steps to Resolve- Confirm the rule type is correct. Open the rule in Conflict Resolution and check that it is set to Incompatible (not Requires) if you want to block selections.
- Verify the correct items are selected. Rules apply to specific Shopify product IDs. If you have duplicate products in Shopify (e.g. the same item imported more than once), you may need a separate rule covering each product ID.
- Check the rule saved successfully. Reload the Conflict Resolution page and confirm the rule appears in the list with the expected Item A and target items.
- Hard-refresh the storefront. The storefront configurator may be caching old rule data. Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
