How to Test Reminder Emails

Testing reminders allows you to verify email templates and merge fields before they reach real customers. After saving your settings, enter your email in the test section to receive a sample of every step in a sequence, which will be clearly marked as a test and populated with safe sample data. The system generates these previews even without existing quotes, allowing you to finalize your strategy ahead of time. You can confirm successful delivery or identify errors by checking the success banners and the Recent Activity log.

Overview

Before your reminders go live, you should test them to make sure the emails look right, the merge fields populate correctly, and the overall experience meets your expectations.

Sending a Test

  1. Make sure you have saved your settings and steps first.
  2. On the track you want to test, click Show test to expand the test section.
  3. Choose or type the email address where you want to receive the test emails.
  4. Click the Send Test button (for example: Send Test for Saved Track).

What Happens

The system sends one test email for each step configured in that track. So if you have 4 steps in the Saved track, you will receive 4 test emails — one for each step. This lets you preview the entire customer journey at once.

Test Emails Are Safe

  • Test emails are only sent to the address you enter — never to real customers.
  • They are clearly marked with a blue TEST EMAIL banner at the top.
  • They do not update any quote data or reminder counts.
  • If discount steps are included, test discount placeholders are shown (no real Shopify discount codes are created).

When No Quotes Exist

If you do not have any quotes in the right status for a track (for example, no saved quotes exist yet), the system will still send test emails using realistic sample data. This lets you preview your email templates even before your first real customer quote comes in.

Reviewing Results

After the test runs, a success or warning banner appears showing how many emails were sent. If any emails failed, an error message explains why. Test emails also appear in the Recent Activity log at the bottom of the page, marked with a [TEST] note.
