Understanding Rule Types

Conflict rules allow you to either restrict of require 1 or more products in a configuration.

There are two kinds of rules:

Type What is does Customer experience
Incompatible Prevents two or more items from being selected together.  If the customer selects Item A, Item B is grayed out with a warning message.
Requires Forces one or more item(s) to be selected whenever another is selected. If the customer selects Item A, Item B is automatically added to the configuration.

Example — Incompatible: A red frame and a blue motor cannot be used together. If a customer picks the red frame, the blue motor becomes unavailable.

Example — Requires: A premium motor requires a heavy-duty controller. If a customer picks the premium motor, the heavy-duty controller is automatically selected (you can also set how many are needed).
