How to Configure Reminder Steps
A reminder step is a single, scheduled email within a sequence that includes a specific delay, subject line, body text, and optional discount incentive. You can manage these by expanding the step editor in the Saved or Finalized tracks to adjust when each message sends and what content it contains. The editor supports merge fields to personalize emails with details like customer names, quote totals, and expiration dates, while steps with discounts gain additional fields for auto-generated codes. You have the flexibility to add new steps based on best practices, delete unnecessary ones, or restore the entire track to its original default settings.
What Is a Reminder Step?
A reminder step is a single email in a sequence. Each step has a delay (how many days to wait before sending), a subject line, an email body, and an optional discount offer. Steps are sent in order — Step 1 first, then Step 2, and so on.
Viewing and Editing Steps
In the Saved Quotes Track or Finalized Quotes Track card, click Show steps to expand the step editor. Each step is displayed in its own panel showing:
- Delay (days) — How many days after the quote was created (saved track) or finalized (finalized track) to send this reminder.
- Discount — An optional discount amount to include as an incentive.
- Discount type — Choose between a dollar amount ($) or a percentage (%), or select None for no discount.
- Email subject — The subject line of the reminder email. Supports merge fields.
- Email body — The body text of the reminder email. Supports merge fields.
Using Merge Fields
Merge fields are placeholders that get replaced with real data when the email is sent. Click any merge field tag above the subject or body input to insert it at your cursor position. Available merge fields:
- customer_name — The customer's first name
- quote_name — The name of the saved quote
- quote_total — The dollar total of the quote
- product_title — The title of the configured product
- quote_reference — The short reference code (e.g. #4JR3)
- expiration_date — The date the quote expires
- days_remaining — Number of days until the quote expires
If a step includes a discount, three additional merge fields become available:
- discount_code — The auto-generated Shopify discount code
- discount_description — A description like “5% off” or “$10.00 off”
- discount_expiry — When the discount code expires
Adding a Step
Click the Add Step button below the existing steps. A new step is added with default values based on best practices. Edit the delay, subject, body, and discount as needed.
Removing a Step
Click the Delete button (trash icon with “Delete” label) in the top-right corner of any step to remove it.
Restoring Default Steps
If you want to start over with the recommended best-practice steps, click Restore Defaults for this Track. This replaces all current steps with the defaults. Any custom steps you created will be lost.
Remember to Save
After making changes to any steps, click the Save button at the top of the page. Changes are not applied until you save.
