[Products & Configurations](https://shopify-apps-kb.nsource.com/shopify-apps-kb/configurator?hsLang=en#products-configurations) # How to Add/Remove Categories & Items to a Configuration ## In Configurator, a category acts as a selectable, customized section backed by a specific Shopify collection, allowing all products within that collection to become selectable options. To set this up, users create a new category in the configuration, select a collection, and save, with no limit on the number of categories per configuration.  ### What Is a Category? A category (also called a group) is one selectable section of the configurator — for example, "Video Cards" or "USB Drives". Each category is backed by a Shopify collection; every product in that collection becomes a selectable item within the category. ### Steps 1. Either **create a new product**, or choose an existing one from the **Active or Archived** lists in the **Configurator Products section**. 2. If the configuration already exists, open the configuration by clicking on its row. 3. In the modal, type in the search box to find a **Shopify collection**. Collections already used in this configuration are automatically excluded from results. 5. Select the collection you want and it will be placed at the bottom of the current configuration. ### Adding Multiple Categories Repeat the steps above for each additional category. There is no hard limit on the number of categories per configuration. **Tip:** Organize your Shopify collections thoughtfully before building. Each collection should contain only the items relevant to one configuration category. ### How to Add Items to the Configuration Each collection you add to a configuration should have products associated with it.  **New Group: ** To add some or all of these products to a newly added group then click on **Add items** for that group.
